Mini-makeover #7- Incorporate live plants into your interior scheme
Green is the color of nature. It symbolizes growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. Put in that context, it is obvious why winter can be an emotional struggle at times. Our winter world is a world void of green. It is a season when nature is stripped down to its raw and most unattractive form. Thankfully winter brings fluffy snowflakes to provide relief from the blandness of bare trees, but snow is no substitute for the natural green that we long for during the winter months. Do yourself a favor and add the vitality of green back into your life by incorporating live ornamental plants into your interior scheme!
Soergel’s Orchard in Wexford, has been offering beautifully cultivated house plants for over 100 years. If you are a Pittsburgh local and are looking for organic greens to place in your home, Soergel’s is a great place to start.
Another option is Phipps Conservatory. Although Phipps Conservatory is primarily focused on showcasing exquisite plants, it also sells a variety of organic house plants including orchids and bonsai. Mini-makeover #8- Keep dinners visually exciting
One way to keep your dinner table fresh and exciting is by using a fresh plant for the table centerpiece. However, the excitement does not need to end there. Your dinnerware should function as a fresh accent that ads excitement to the table as well! Women who frequently entertain should have two or three sets of dishes and at least one should be designed with bold colors and/or engaging patterns.
Anthropologie is widely recognized for its colorful, engaging, sophisticated, and chic dinnerware. The company’s Tabletop Design Tool is a web-based device that enables you to customize and design your own table top while sitting at your computer. Mini-makeover #9- Create an instant canopy over your bed
I was first exposed to bed canopies when I was a little girl. I remember wanting one so badly because I wanted to feel like I was sleeping amongst the clouds with one below and one above me. I also felt like the canopy reminded me of a guardian angel that would comfort and protect me as I slept. But what I did not know then is how easy it is to make a canopy over a bed! If you want to add a little comfort and unique flair to a bedroom, make a bed canopy by following these eight easy steps. It is that simple to refresh your room and provide a sense of hospitality and comfort to overnight guests.
1) First, measure the ceiling to floor length of the room in which the canopy is to be hanged. If necessary, round up the length as it is always better to have a long flowing canopy instead of a short one. The fabric of the canopy should touch the floor of the room after moving around the bed.
2) Select the fabric for the canopy. As you are designing the canopy for a girl’s bed, the best option is to select net, sheer fabric or tulle.
3) Select a hoop. Any light weight ring shaped object can be used. Alternatively, you may use a hula hoop or an embroidery hoop. The larger the hoop, the better it is as it would cover a large area.
4) Cover the hoop you have selected with a six inch strip of fabric so that the original hoop is not visible. Decorate the hoop with feathers or artificial flower garlands and beads.
5) The rest of the fabric is to be cut in strips. The width of the strips should be in accordance to the size of the hoop. For small hoops, 8 inches or 12 inches wide would be ideal and for big hoops – 14 inches to 18 inches would be best.
6) Wrap the one end of fabric around the hoop and fix it by using glue or stitching it. Repeat the process for the rest of the pieces.
7) Attach the canopy hoop to the ceiling with the help of strong metal screws or fishing wire.
8.) Lastly, fluff the canopy in order to spread the fabric equally.
