Window Shade and Drape Pairings

Spring is in full swing and many in our community are hard at work on home improvement projects since we are spending more time in our homes these days. A current trend in the Pittsburgh homeowner community is to refresh window treatments by adding new shades and drape combinations that will enhance the style and function of a room. Window shades and drapes are a powerful duo that when combined properly, can make any room jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Pittsburgh Window Treatment company, Nest Expressions, has been creating window treatment combinations for over twenty years, and now we will share some of our favorite professional tips.

Duette honeycomb shades with drapes in the living room

The first step to creating the look your windows deserve is to start by choosing the type of window shades that you want since drapes are the less permanent of the two fixtures. If you are furnishing windows in a small room, stick with bright, neutral, and clean shades, such as Hunter Douglas Honeycomb® or Pirouette® to open the space and enlarge the perception of the room. For larger rooms, there is more opportunity to be creative and play with dramatic colors if desired.

When selecting the window shades, remember that these will be what control light and privacy so consider custom window shades from Hunter Douglas that have light filtering qualities or blackout features, depending on your light and privacy preferences.

When selecting drapery that complements the shades, a cellular shade combined with a drape offers a fashion-forward contemporary look at the window. Duette® honeycomb shades feature a wide range of pleat sizes, fabrics, and colors. If you go with a light-colored shade, try complementing it with a dark drape. Or if your shade is solid, maybe choose a drape with a colorful pattern.

Silhouette window shadings with drapes in a living room

Sheer shades beautifully diffuse natural light to create a soft ambiance in a room, while blackout drapes provide the total privacy and darkness you want at night. For even more light control, Silhouette® window shadings can be paired with an independently operated room-darkening liner on the same headrail. The great thing about sheer shades is that they come in a variety of luxurious fabrics that contrast nicely with a heavier, dramatic drapery.

Vignette roman shades with drapes in a bedroom

Roman shades are available in numerous styles. The timeless fabrics of Vignette® Modern Roman Shades are available in a range of styles and fold sizes that add depth and interest when combined with drapes.

In addition to contemporary window shades and drapes, add pops of live greenery and accessories in varying blush and grey tones to refresh and renew your home this spring season.
