We took some time this week to chat with Nest Expressions owner, Janine Klein, about current flooring and window treatment trends, as well as forecasts for future trends. Here is what Janine had to say:
In 2014, it is all about textures and patterns. Carpet trends are moving away from frieze and toward subtle patterns and textures. Also tone on tone coloration are very popular. Soft carpets and carpet made from recycled content are loved by current customers!
Consumers are still trending toward covering more and more of their floors with hardwood instead of carpet. Hardwood is now moving upstairs to master bedrooms and upper halls. It has previously been mostly used in first floor Living Room/Dining Room, Entry, Family Room and Kitchen. We have also been seeing a lot more hardwood being used in basements. The most popular looks are distressed and hand scraped, with a break away from the traditional glossy finish look.
3. Window Treatments:
Homeowners are using blinds and shades for the most part and there is still steady movement away from heavy fabric treatments. The use of drapery panels and decorative rods is still popular and Shutters are hugely popular! As technology continues to evolve, we are seeing a growing interest and demand for remote powered shades. Our customers are loving the Platinum App from Hunter Douglas which enables them to control shadings with their smart phones!
